T-LOG 09 - The Legend Returns

From the ashes…

Gareus has returned, and what a return it is. We have essentially bypassed any form of objectivity and have now just embraced Gareus’ own self image. A little callback to the very first page and the cover to this ghastly exercise we know as The Legend of Gareus.

In fact this most recent page (how Gareus remembers events) is based on an ooooolllld Image comics cover from the 90s. You know when comics were hyped up on steroids and every man looked like a jacked up bodybuilder and every woman a barbie doll in latex. What a ridiculous era of comics.

Regardless, 14 year old me bloody loved 90s comics, Image in particular. The 90s saw me copying out whole issues of WILDCATS by Jim Lee and Travis Charest in little notebooks and learning and loving every minute of it. I still look back at my tattered old collection at times and get a hint of that thrill I got as a teenager.

In that pile of dilapidated pulp however, a certain WILDCATS cover by Jim Lee exists - issue 13. Now I loved this cover by Jim Lee, so much so that these two new pages are a homage to it. As silly in reality as that image is (the art however is still amazing), the idea of that 90s male power-fantasy for Gareus was just a perfect fit. What else would Gareus think of when imaging himself as the hero of his own story.

I guess Gareus was there all along when I was 14, taking notes.

Well buddy, you did it, you are a comic book cover hero. Enjoy it (while it lasts).
